Chairman of the Tanfidziyah Executive Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PCNU) Karawang, H. Deden Permana.

THE KARAWANG POST – A clash broke out on Ir. H. Juanda Street, Nagasari, Karawang, on Friday (March 7, 2025), between activists from the Coalition for Action to Save Indonesia (KAMI) and local parking attendants.

The incident began when several KAMI activists arrived at the location to question the legality of closing the street for a food market. What started as a discussion quickly turned into a heated argument when some parking attendants became agitated by the questions. The tension escalated, allegedly leading to acts of violence, with several KAMI activists and a journalist covering the event becoming victims of the altercation.

The incident drew attention from the Chairman of the Tanfidziyah Executive Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PCNU) Karawang, H. Deden Permana, commonly known as Kang Deden. He expressed his concern over the clash, especially during the holy month of Ramadan, and urged all parties to exercise restraint and maintain peace.

“We are deeply saddened by this incident, especially as we are currently observing Ramadan. I call on everyone to remain calm and preserve harmony during this sacred month,” said Kang Deden on Saturday (March 8, 2025).

PCNU Supports UMKM and Local Government Policies

Regarding the controversy surrounding the closure of Ir. H. Juanda Street for the food market, Kang Deden emphasized that the decision lies with the Karawang Regional Government. He also expressed support for the administration’s efforts to promote the local economy, particularly small and medium enterprises (UMKM).

“PCNU appreciates the government's initiative in supporting the food market during the fasting month. We are ready to collaborate with the local government to boost economic growth for the people,” he stated.

Furthermore, Kang Deden highlighted the importance of fostering unity during Ramadan, encouraging both religious and national solidarity.

“Let’s strengthen our Islamic brotherhood among fellow Muslims and uphold national unity as citizens, regardless of our differences,” he urged.

PCNU also extended its appreciation to the Karawang Regional Government for shutting down nightlife venues during Ramadan to maintain the sanctity of the holy month.

“We thank the local government for closing entertainment venues during Ramadan. May this step bring blessings to all of us,” Kang Deden concluded.

Following this incident, all parties are urged to seek peaceful resolutions through dialogue rather than violence. Ramadan should be a time to reinforce social harmony, not create unnecessary conflicts. (*)
